WELCOME TO AMERICA'S ADVENTURE PLACE
The Northern Nevada Police and Fire Games and City of Reno again welcome you to our area for the 2010 Western States Police and Fire Games. We hosted the 2005 Western States Police and Fire Games -- a huge success!
Not only will the games provide almost 60 competitive athletic sporting events, but they are being held in "America's Adventure Place". July weather in the Reno area is beautiful with warm, sunny days and cooler evenings. We have lots of fun adventures for adults as well as every family member. Of course, we have gambling for those guests who want to win big, we have nightclubs for those who want to party, lots of world class restaurants to choose from, and many attractions within an hour's drive from the headquarter hotels (Silver Legacy Resort Casino, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Circus Circus) in downtown Reno. To book your hotel reservations visit www.wspfg2010.org .
This area is known worldwide for its wide variety of outdoor adventures in hiking, biking, boating, camping and many other thrilling activities. We are a university town housing the University of Nevada and Truckee Meadows Community College.
Reno-Tahoe International Airport is five minutes from downtown Reno and offers many daily flights to choose from. We are within a half-day's drive from northern California. For those who want to spend a long day (8-14 hours) in the car you can drive here from Southern California, Southern Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Arizona.
Reno and Sparks is 30 miles from our state capital, Carson City. Carson City has everything to offer that other capital cities have as well as many historic sites like the Nevada State Museum, the Virginia & Truckee Railway which runs from Carson City to Gold Hill, a ghost tour of haunted mansions, and other fun attractions. The historic old west town of Virginia City is only 24 miles from downtown Reno. The oldest town in the state, Genoa, is a short 40 mile drive from Reno. For a glance into native cultures visit mystical Pyramid Lake, the last remnant of a prehistoric sea. Pyramid Lake is ranked as one of the best trophy lakes in the world for Lahontan cutthroat trout and is a short 25 miles from Reno.
Our sporting events will be held at various locations throughout the area. We are lucky to have use of the new Golden Eagle Regional Park in Sparks (about 20 minutes from downtown Reno). This state-of-the-art ball complex, with 1.4 million sq. ft. of artificial turf, was the largest artificial turf park in the world when it was built in 2008-09. It has 6 softball fields, 2 prep-baseball fields, 2 youth fields, 2 volleyball courts, 3 soccer/football fields, 2 bocce ball courts and a 7,200 sq. ft. concession venue. The triathlon will again be held at beautiful Donner Lake in Truckee, California (40 minutes from downtown Reno). Ice Hockey and some cycling events will be held at different ends of pristine Lake Tahoe. Bowling will be held at the National Bowling Stadium which is the only facility of it's kind in the country.
While visiting Reno & Sparks guests can enjoy a multitude of experiences. For more details please visit http://www.visitrenotahoe.com/
